Top Universities for Sports Degrees in Oregon

University of Oregon - On-Campus B.A., B.S., or M.B.A. in Business Administration, Concentration in Sports Business

At the University of Oregon, hands-on experiences and connections to top executives at sports apparel companies, sports agencies, professional teams and beyond, students graduate armed with the necessary equipment to become thought leaders and operational experts within the context of their favorite sports or teams.

The Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon is one of most robust and well-respected business schools, particularly as it relates to sports, not just in Oregon, but in the country. The Business Administration major requires ten core courses and seven additional business electives courses from at least three different departments within the Lundquist College. Like many other business programs, students also have non-business and global contextual requirements outside their chosen major. As a part of those electives, students can choose from one of five concentrations: Finance, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Operations and Business Analytics, and, of course, Sports Business.

Under the Lundquist College of Business umbrella is a unique sports-specific laboratory-like training ground that can only be found at the University of Oregon. Named the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, students have the opportunity at Oregon to learn the sports business in a hands-on way more intensely than anywhere else in the country. The Warsaw Center has a tradition of placing students in internship positions at numerous leading sport companies like ESPN, Wasserman, the Portland Trail Blazers, Nike, the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco Giants, and Adidas. Oregon's own Hayward Field has also hosted numerous top events, especially in the sport of track and field giving students access to some of the most elite and Olympic-level talent and the event management efforts that go into hosting these world-class events. In tandem with the center itself, Oregon sports business students can join the Warsaw Sports Business Club. With access to sports industry guest speakers, study tours, experiential learning, networking, and student-run events, the WSBC includes an elected student executive board, the perfect addition to an internship on a resume. Meetings are held biweekly, and it costs $75 for a one year membership to the club.

It's worth noting that the prolific athletic reputation of the University of Oregon is not by accident. Phil Knight, founder of Nike, is an alum of the institution and still contributes greatly to the athletic department as a key donor. Nike as a company also has high stakes in terms of wanting U of O succeed. In 2017, Nike and Oregon reached a sponsorship renewal agreement worth over $88 million over the course of the next decade.

Warner Pacific - On-Campus B.S. - Sports Management

Housed in the College of Natural Sciences and Health, the Warner Pacific degree program leans more to the kinesiology-minded student. To earn your degree here, you will need to elect a study emphasis, either administrative or coaching. The administrative emphasis is a good fit for those seeking careers in marketing, management, advocacy, or sports business administration. The coaching emphasis is geared, obviously, at those seeking to get into coaching whether at the professional, collegiate, or developmental levels. It's worth noting that Warner Pacific is not your typical small regional college. At WPU, their goal is to make education accessible specifically to underserved, low-income, first-generation college students. Located in Portland, WPU is also a Christ-centered, urban, liberal arts university dedicated to providing equitable opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.
